Take These Things Away
These are the words of Jesus in John 2:16 as He drove out the money-changers and animal sellers that had set up their businesses in the temple complex. The temple was the very heart of Jewish life. What Jesus did was outrageous, maybe even radical. Furniture was overturned, animals ran, and coins scattered. He went to the centre of Jewish life and made a harsh judgment on what He found.
We should be angered by the things that anger God. Jesus was outrageous. So was William Wilberforce. So was Martin Luther King. When society or government tolerates that which is offensive to God, the church has a God-given mandate to raise her voice and stand against it.
Our nation is being poisoned by a flood of immorality on the printed page, DVD, and the Internet. What used to be found in seedy shops on back alleys is now thrust in the faces of our children when we get our groceries or stop at the local shop for milk.
God has put a fire in my bones to call the Church to raise her voice and demand that these things be removed. We are called to be salt and light in a corrupt and dark world. That means we are to effect change rather than standing at a distance and moaning about the state of society.
Where is the voice in our land? Where is the outraged Body of Christ who will walk into the centre of our towns and cities and say, “Take these things away!”?
I want to put together a army of people who will boycott all shops, petrol stations, convenience stores, etc. that sell this trash. I want the church in Ireland to collectively scream into the high streets and supermarkets that we will not put up with this any longer. If you want to see these products removed from our shops and returned to the seedy dumps where they belong, I would ask you to add your name to this petition and give us your email address so we can contact you about proposed action. This would involve a one-month, total boycott of these shops later in 2010. Prior to this action taking place, shop owners and retail giants would be warned by letter of their ensuing loss of revenue unless they clean up their shelves. It is time for the light of God’s people to burn brightly in our land. We would appreciate it if you would spread the word about this in your churches and among family and friends.
Thanks in anticipation of your support,
